Our Story
Our love story—both with candles and with each other—began in late 2000. We were young and broke, living off those classic just-starting-out paychecks. Our dates weren’t extravagant, but they were memorable: eating coney dogs and tots in our pajamas in the pickup truck, with Bob Seger singing about a gypsy wind and a starlit sky.
When we had a little extra cash and were bored with our tiny hometown, we’d head a couple hours south to a city with way more shops than our local mall. The main reason? To pick out a new candle from a very well-known national store. This was before that company sold for the first of three times—back when their candles could fragrance an entire room without even being lit.
We’ve always loved candles. Even now, you’ll still catch us in the candle aisle popping off lids, swapping jars, and saying things like: “Smell this one!”
“Oh no, don’t smell that one.”
“You’d love this—it smells like my grandmother’s house…”
It’s a simple joy that’s stayed with us for 25 years.
Over time, though, our beloved candles just didn’t hit the same. James couldn’t even find a decent, solid vanilla scent anymore. So that Christmas, he asked for a candle-making kit and declared, “I’ll just make my own!” I did the research, found legit suppliers, and discovered this wasn’t just a hobby—it was a whole world.
The day after Christmas, James dove in headfirst—watching videos, reading everything he could get his hands on, and turning our kitchen into a full-blown candle lab. He was on a mission to create the best-smelling, longest-lasting candle he could!
For me, this was going to be a quiet little side hustle—a way to bring some fun into my chaotic life and create something special for our community. But if you know James... you know he doesn’t do “small,” and he definitely doesn’t do “quiet.”
So here we are—making candles in both North Carolina and North Dakota. And maybe one day... all over the world.
Xoxo,
